contemporary semi-autobiographical book cover

All My Friends Died in Plane Crashes | Adrian Zupp

All My Friends Died in Plane Crashes is a semi-autobiographical collection of short stories depicting a young man’s life growing up in the rough western suburbs of Sydney, Australia, in the early 1970s.

BookMarc was tasked with creating a book cover that would relay the wild, gritty, and often brutal reality of the author and his group of friends at that time.

The author shared a vintage photo of himself from the era to be used on the front cover and expressed an interest in recreating the scene in the present for the back cover resulting in the entertaining juxtaposition of past and present. (You can take the boy out of Sydney, but you can’t take the “wild” out of him!)
